Wheatley's houses: a stone village and the homes around it
Wheatley sits on the far side of Shotover Hill from Oxford, and its old centre is built largely of local stone, with a conservation area around the High Street and the church. Stone houses like these often have old chimneys and roofs that have been patched over many years, and a repair should suit the building rather than fight it. Work on a listed house or in the conservation area may need the council's say first. My heritage roofing page covers how I approach older roofs.
Around the old village are newer houses, many with concrete interlocking tiles and flat roofs over garages, porches and extensions. Slipped tiles, tired ridge mortar and old felt flat roofs are the usual jobs there: see my roof repairs page.
I cover Wheatley and the villages near it, including Holton, Forest Hill, Horspath, Garsington, Great Milton and Stanton St John. For planned work I usually look the next day; for an emergency I'm usually there in about an hour.

Questions from Wheatley
Do you cover Wheatley and the villages around it?
Yes. I cover Wheatley and the villages near it, including Holton, Forest Hill, Horspath, Garsington, Great Milton and Stanton St John, as part of the whole of Oxfordshire. To check before I come out, WhatsApp me your postcode and a photo of the roof on 07306 077999.
Can you repair the roof on an old stone house in Wheatley?
Yes. I work on old, period and listed buildings, and on old stone and soft brick I use lime mortar for bedding and pointing. If the house is listed or in the conservation area, some work may need consent from the council before it starts. My heritage roofing page has more.
