Roofing for period and listed buildings in Oxford
I repair and re-roof old, period and listed buildings across Oxford and Oxfordshire, including stone slate roofs. The visit and the quote are free.
Roofing since 2015, with a written guarantee
Heritage roofing in Oxford means repairing an old roof so it keeps its character: matching the materials, saving what can be saved and working within any consent the council has given. I work on old, period and listed buildings, including stone slate roofs. I don’t hold a conservation accreditation, and I’d rather say so plainly.
How a period roof job with me works
Call or send a photo
Ring or WhatsApp 07306 077999 and tell me about the house. Photos of the roof from the street and the garden, and of any damage, help.
Free survey and written report
I look over the roof in person and write up all the work it needs, free of charge.
Check consent first
If the house is listed or in a conservation area, check with the council what needs consent before any work starts.
Free quote
I give you a free quote in writing. You pay the price we agreed; if I find more once I start, I talk it through with you first.
The work and your guarantee
Any extra work I find gets talked through with you first. You get the guarantee in writing, by email: 20 years on a new roof, at least 5 years on a repair.
Questions about period and listed roofs
Do you work on listed buildings and in conservation areas?
Yes, I work on old, period and listed buildings, and many of them sit in conservation areas. I don't hold a conservation accreditation or belong to a trade body, so I'll tell you plainly what I'd do and why. Getting consent is the owner's job: my guide explains when it's needed.
Can you repair a stone slate roof?
Yes, I work on stone slate roofs. Most repairs mean lifting the slipped or broken stones, renewing rotten pegs and battens, and re-laying the stones in their right course. Because so little new stone slate is made, saving every sound stone on the roof matters.
Will you reuse my original tiles or slates?
Yes, if the original tiles or slates are in good condition, I re-use them, which is usually the right thing on an old roof. The usual way is to strip carefully, sort the good ones and put them back on the slopes seen from the street, with matching reclaimed ones making up the losses.
Talk to me about your period roof
Tell me about the house: WhatsApp a few photos of the roof or call 07306 077999. I come and look, usually the next day, with no charge for the visit or the quote.
