Woodstock's roofs: a stone town at Blenheim's gates
Woodstock is an old market town built of Cotswold stone, sitting right beside Blenheim Palace. Much of the centre is a conservation area and many of its buildings are listed, so a roof repair there has to suit the building, and some work may need consent from West Oxfordshire District Council first. On old stone and soft brick I use lime mortar for bedding and pointing. My heritage roofing page explains how I work on older roofs.
Many of the older roofs are stone slate, the kind Stonesfield, a few miles west, gave its name to, with clay tile and Welsh slate on others. Old chimneys and the lead around them take a lot of weather on houses this age: see my chimney repairs page. The newer houses on the edges of the town are more often concrete tile, with flat roofs over garages and extensions.
I cover Woodstock and Old Woodstock, and the villages around them, including Bladon, Wootton, Tackley, Stonesfield and Long Hanborough. For planned work I usually look the next day; for an emergency I'm usually there in about an hour.

Questions from Woodstock
Do you cover Woodstock and the villages around it?
Yes. I cover Woodstock, Old Woodstock and the villages near them, including Bladon, Wootton, Tackley, Stonesfield and Long Hanborough, as part of the whole of Oxfordshire. To check before I come out, WhatsApp me your postcode and a photo of the roof on 07306 077999.
Can you work on a stone slate roof on a listed house?
Yes. I work on old, period and listed buildings, including stone slate roofs, and if the old slates are in good condition I re-use them. On a listed building, or in Woodstock's conservation area, some work may need the council's consent before it starts, so check that first. My heritage roofing page has more.
