How a chimney repair with me works
Call or send a photo
Ring or WhatsApp 07306 077999. A photo of the stack from the garden or the street helps.
I come and look
I come out, usually the next day, at no charge. I check the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashing, and the loft for damp around the stack.
Free quote
I tell you what the stack needs and give you a free quote in writing. You pay the price we agreed. If I find more work once the job has started, I talk it through with you first.
The repair
I arrange the scaffolding, which is included in the quote, and then get on with the work: repointing, flaunching, flashing or a cowl.
Waste and guarantee
The old materials and waste go into a skip and are taken away. The guarantee comes to you in writing, by email.

Questions about chimney repairs
Why is my chimney leaking?
Most chimney leaks come from one of four places: cracked flaunching on top, worn pointing, failed flashing where the stack meets the roof, or rain falling down an open flue. A repair that didn't hold is common too: in OX3 in January 2025 I fixed a chimney leak that had come back after another roofer's repair, and guaranteed my fix.
Do I need a chimney cowl?
You need one if rain, birds or downdraughts are getting into a flue. A rain cap keeps water out of a flue you no longer use, a bird guard stops nests blocking it, and an anti-downdraught cowl helps a fire that smokes. A flue serving a gas fire or boiler needs the terminal made for that appliance: check with a Gas Safe engineer first.
How often does a chimney need repointing?
There's no fixed interval: a chimney needs repointing when the mortar has worn back from the face of the bricks. Good pointing lasts decades, but the top of the stack weathers faster than the walls below. Look at it from the street every few years and after a hard winter, and get it checked if the joints look recessed or bricks are flaking.
Can you take down a chimney stack I no longer use?
Yes, I take down chimney stacks. Taking an unused stack down below the roof line and tiling over it ends the upkeep on a chimney that does nothing. If it's shared with next door, or the chimney breast is coming out too, see the rules above.
