Roof cleaning, moss removal and maintenance in Oxford
I clear moss, soil and debris off pitched and flat roofs across Oxford and Oxfordshire, and check the tiles, gutters and flashings while I'm up there.
Free visit and quote, usually the next day
Roof cleaning in Oxford with Alto Roofing means getting the moss, soil and plant growth off your roof before it blocks the gutters and lifts the tiles, and checking the roof over while I'm up there. I work on pitched and flat roofs: in OX4 I repaired and cleaned a pitched roof, and the photos below show a gravel flat roof I cleared.
How a roof clean with me works
Call or send a photo
Send a photo of the roof on WhatsApp to 07306 077999, or ring. One shot from the garden showing how much moss there is is enough to start.
Free visit and quote
I check the moss, the tiles and their condition, then give you a free quote in writing. You pay the price we agreed. If I find more work once the job has started, I talk it through with you first.
Cleaning the roof
I take the moss and debris off the roof, using the method that suits it, then clear what has come down into the gutters and outlets.
Anything I find
If a tile has slipped or a flashing has cracked, I tell you and give you a free quote for the repair.

Questions about roof cleaning
Is moss bad for my roof?
Yes, thick moss is bad for a roof, mostly because of the water it holds. It keeps the tiles wet, so frost can crack and lift them, and clumps that wash off block the gutters and downpipes. A thin film of moss on a sound roof is mostly cosmetic.
How do you clean a roof without damaging the tiles?
Gently, without forcing water under the tiles or stripping their surface. I use a mix of hand scraping, low-pressure washing and moss treatment, depending on the roof. High-pressure washing is the usual cause of damage: it can wear concrete tiles away and push water into the loft. Working from a roof ladder or boards, not walking on the tiles, stops them cracking underfoot.
How often should a roof be checked?
Once a year is a sensible rule, and again after a big storm. Late autumn is a good time, once the leaves are down. Older roofs and roofs under trees are worth checking more often. A free roof survey from me covers the whole roof, with a written report.
