A roof replacement in Oxford with Alto Roofing is a full re-roof: the old tiles, felt and battens come off, and the roof goes back on with new breathable membrane, new battens and tiles, finished with dry-fixed ridge, hips and verges. Every new roof comes with a 20-year guarantee in writing, sent by email.
How a re-roof with me works
Call or send a photo
Call or WhatsApp me on 07306 077999. A photo of the roof helps. I usually come and look the next day.
Free survey and quote
I check the tiles, ridge, flashings and loft, then give you a free written quote. You pay the price we agreed. If I find more work once the roof is open, I talk it through with you first.
Scaffolding goes up
A full re-roof needs scaffolding with edge protection before any tiles come off. I arrange it, and it's in the quote.
Strip and re-batten
The old tiles, felt and battens come off. Tiles in good condition are set aside to re-use; the rest goes into a skip and is taken away. New membrane and battens go on to keep the house dry.
Tiling and dry-fixing
I tile the roof, then fix the ridge, hips and verges mechanically and dress new flashings where the roof meets walls and chimneys.
Your guarantee
Once the roof is finished, you get your 20-year guarantee in writing, by email.

Questions about a new roof
What is included in a full re-roof?
A full re-roof includes stripping the old tiles, felt and battens, laying new breathable membrane and battens, re-tiling, and fixing the ridge, hips and verges mechanically. Where the roof meets a chimney or wall, I renew the flashing as part of the job. If the fascias or gutters are tired, I'll point it out when I quote.
How long does a re-roof take?
It depends on the job, so I don't give a fixed time. A small terraced roof and a large hipped roof are very different jobs. What turns up under the old felt matters too, such as rotten timbers, and tiles shouldn't go on in high winds.
What guarantee do I get on a new roof?
A new roof from me comes with a 20-year guarantee, in writing, sent to you by email. That applies to flat roofs as well as pitched ones. Keep the email with your house papers: buyers' surveyors often ask how old the roof is.
Do I need scaffolding for a new roof?
Yes, a full re-roof needs scaffolding. The Work at Height Regulations expect proper edge protection for work like this, not ladders alone, and it gives a safe platform for stacking tiles. I arrange the scaffolding, and it's included in my quote.
Can you re-roof with the same tiles?
Yes, if the old tiles are in good condition I re-use them. Clay plain tiles and natural slate can often be taken off, sorted and put back, with reclaimed ones making up the losses. Concrete tiles from the 1950s to the 1970s are usually too worn to save. For period and listed houses, see my heritage roofing page.
