Yes, I can refix or replace a single slipped slate. The usual method is a tingle: a strip of lead or copper hooked under the slate and folded up to hold it. One slipped slate is often the first sign of nail sickness, so I look along the rest of the roof.
Natural or man-made slate: which is better?
Natural slate lasts longer and suits period houses; man-made slate is lighter and costs less. Welsh slate often lasts 100 years or more, fibre-cement around 30. On a listed house or in a conservation area, the council normally expects natural slate.

A natural slate roof often lasts 100 years or more, fibre-cement around 30. The slates are rarely what fails first: iron nails rust, battens rot and the torching (mortar under the slates) falls away. So on a re-slate, if the old slates are in good condition, I re-use them.
